C.C. Baxter (Jack Lemmon) lends his apartment to company bosses to use for extramarital affairs in exchange for promoting him. One day he learns that Fran Kubelik (Shirley MacLaine), the elevator girl whom Baxter is interested in, is the bosses’ mistresses.
