IndieLisboa – Cultural Association is a non-profit institution that emerged to occupy a void that had previously dominated film theatres: to show films that are inaccessible to the public otherwise because they are not available in the so-called mainstream distribution channels. Since its foundation in 2002, IndieLisboa has created original cinema programming and dissemination projects, which include films by renowned authors and surprising works by new filmmakers.
Through IndieLisboa – International Film Festival, Portugal Film, Lisbon Screenings, international Portuguese cinema shows, the edition of the Short Film FNAC DVD, the Cinema Support Fund and its educational services, among other initiatives, the association promotes national film production, by broadening the visibility of Portuguese films to the public and to Portuguese and international professionals.
Activities
IndieLisboa – International Film Festival
Since 2004, the city and the public have been welcoming the festival with open arms. Every year, for 11 days, IndieLisboa shows more than 270 films of all genres, receiving about 35,000 spectators and more than 400 professionals.

Portugal Film
Agency for the promotion and internationalization of Portuguese cinema. This project communicates and disseminates national cinema production in a coherent strategy and language, working with different interlocutors – festivals and international shows, international distributors and exhibitors, cinematheques, cultural institutes and specialized press – and the specificity of each film.

Cinema programming
Among other programmes, IndieLisboa organized, in Portugal, the Romanian Film Show, the Sergei Loznitsa and Brillante Mendoza retrospectives, the Visões do Sul Show and the CineCidade programmes (in partnership with EGEAC). The Association also created several programmes in partnership with Semana dos Realizadores do Rio de Janeiro, Panorama Internacional Coisa de Cinema (Salvador da Bahia), The Portuguese Conspiracy (London), International Short Film Festival in the Palace (Bulgaria), International Film Festival of Recife, the Seville International Film Festival, the Transylvanian Film Festival (Romania), the Short Film Festival of Rio de Janeiro, Kino Mozi (Budapest), Kino Muranow (Warsaw) and Kino pod Baranami (Krakow).
Programmes were also organized in partnership with international institutions: “Portuguese Cinema – Hypotheses for a Future” in Barcelona and A Coruña; IndieLisboa extensions in Krakow (Poland) , Budapest (Hungary), Hors Pistes / Center George Pompidou (France), Kino Lab / Centro de Arte Contemporáneo (Warsaw, Poland), Centro Gallego Artes da Imaxe (A Coruña, Spain), Kinoteka (Ljubljana, Slovenia); Kaohsiung Film Festival in Taiwan. IndieLisboa Days, a programme also regularly organized over the last decade, was presented in Berlin, Istanbul, Ljubljana, Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata, Bratislava, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, St. Petersburg, Provincetown, Paris and Bucharest. Cinemateca Paixão, in Macao, has also been a regular partner of the association in the organization of Portuguese cinema shows.
