Mamadou Ba

Portuguese citizen, born in Senegal. He has lived in Portugal for more than two decades, where he is a decolonial and anti-racist activist, dedicated to the struggles for the human rights of racialized people and migrants. He has a degree in Portuguese Language and Culture from the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar; holder of a Translator Course at the University of Lisbon, PhD student in Sociology at the Center for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra. He was a Founding Member of the Luso-Senegalese Association, of the Portuguese Anti-Racist Network, the Diaspora Afrique, as well as the Alliance of African People and of African Descent in Europe. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the European Network Against Racism from 1999 to 2012, representing Portugal. He has been part of the SOS Racismo Movement and has been a director since 1998 and participated in the drafting of the Open Letter to the UN by the Afrodescendants Platform in Portugal. He was part of the 2021 Census Working Group, created by the government for including the collection of ethnic-racial data. He was a member of the Permanent Commission of the Commission for Equality and Against Racial Discrimination (CICDR), the Scientific Council of the Afroeuropean 2109 and several Scientific Councils of academic projects on the theme of inequality and racism. He has several articles and participations in publications on the theme of racism, migration and ethnic-racial diversity.

Jorge Jácome

Jorge Jácome is a film director. In his work, made of narrative drifts, he seeks to investigate the relationship between utopias, melancholy, disappearance and desire. In 2010 he finished a cinema course at ESTC. Between 2014 and 2016, as a scholarship student at FCGulbenkian, he attended Le Fesnoy school in France, with a final special mention by the jury. His films have already been shown at several film festivals and museums: Berlinale, Toronto, San Sebastian, NYFF, 25 FPS, Winterthur, IndieLisboa, Curtas – Vila do Conde, Palais de Tokyo among many others. He won several awards for his films: with Past Perfect (2019) (Grand Prize for Short Film from the IndieLisboa Int. Competition, Best Film at the Hamburg Festival; with Flores (2017) (Grand Prize at 25 FPS, Punto de Vista, BIEFF, the Novo Talento award – IndieLisboa).

Nuno Rodrigues

Co-founder of Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Festival. In 1999, he founded Agência – Portuguese Short Film Agency, handling the promotion and distribution of Portuguese short films on international markets. Since 2005 he is the director and coordinator of the Solar Gallery.

André Miguel Ferreira

Has a degree in Theater by ESTC. Currently attends Postgraduate studies in Photography and (Post) Cinema, at NOVA — FCSH. Estas Mãos São Minhas was his debut as a director, winning the Brand New competition at IndieLisboa 2019.

Felipe Bragança

39 years old, Brazilian filmmaker created between the historic center of Rio de Janeiro and the suburbs of Baixada Fluminense. He directed 4 feature films, 2 media and 5 short films screened in festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Locarno, Rotterdam and Sundance. He is a constant contributor to film scripts by directors such as Karim Ainouz, Helvécio Marins Jr. and Marina Meliande.

Selma Uamusse

Selma Uamusse is a Mozambican singer born in 1981, living in Portugal since 1988. She sings professionally since she was a teenager, having a very diverse career in music. Her versatility, her powerful vocal instrument and her performative genius led her to shine from rock (WrayGunn) to afrobeat (Cacique’97), through gospel Gospel Collective, (Gospel Sisters), soul and jazz (Rodrigo Leão, tributes to Nina Simone and Miriam Makeba), enriching her journey with different languages, always aware of the transformative social and political power of music.
Selma studied at the Hot Clube of Portugal and created in her own name the projects Souldivers, Selma Uamusse Nu Jazz Ensemble and Tribute to Nina Simone, where she collaborated with Ana Bacalhau, Rita Redshoes, Marcia, The Legendary Tigerman, Luisa Sobral, Elisa Rodrigues, Gospel Collective, among others.
In her own name, Selma Uamusse explores the roots of her country of origin, using Mozambican rhythms and lyrics in native languages, using traditional instruments such as timbila and mbira, combining everything with electronics and other references that mirror her diverse influences.

Paulo Cunha

Guimarães, in 1978. He is a Cinema Professor at the University of Beira Interior, where he directs the Masters in Cinema, and holds a PhD in Contemporary Studies from the University of Coimbra. He is a member of the organizing committee of the Portuguese Cinema Days and the coordination of the Post-Colonial and Peripheral Cinemas Working Group of AIM – Association of Researchers of the Moving Image. He coordinated Aniki: Portuguese Magazine of the Moving Image (2018-2020). He is a programmer for Cineclube de Guimarães and Curtas Vila do Conde. Writes about Portuguese cinema on the website À pala de Walsh.

Marta Lança

Lisbon (1976). She works as a freelancer, as a journalist, programmer and producer. She is currently a PhD student in Artistic Studies at FCSH-UNL and editor of BUALA, a portal for critical thinking about the global south. In cinema, he has collaborated in production and script writing. She translated the most recent books by Achille Mbembe and organized the cycles “For us, for us: the aphrodiaspore production in Portugal” (with Raquel Lima) and the research and performance project TERRA BATIDA (with Rita Natálio).

Pedro Borges

For thirty years now working in the film business (after completely failing as a teacher and later film journalist), in nowadays mythical societies (Atalanta) and cinemas (King, Monumental). Since 2006 managing Midas Filmes and revealing some of the most daring filmmakers in distribution, DVD and Portuguese film production.  Since 2014 also managing Cinema Ideal, which became in the meantime the sole existing cinema in Lisbon. Having plenty of friends and carefully choosing his enemies.

Alexandra Ramires

Alexandra Ramires has been working regularly in animation cinema since 2009. Água Mole is her first animation film co-directed with Laura Gonçalves. ELO is her first solo film to be released in 2020.

Filipe Raposo

Pianist, composer and orchestrator, Filipe Raposo was born in Lisbon in 1979. He began his piano studies at the National Conservatory of Lisbon. He has a master’s degree in Piano Jazz Performance from the Royal College of Music (Stockholm) and was a scholarship student at the Royal Music Academy of Stockholm. He has a degree in Composition of the Lisbon Superior School of Music. He already collaborated in concert and records with some of the main names of Portuguese music: Sérgio Godinho, José Mário Branco, Fausto, Vitorino, Amélia Muge, Camané, Rita Maria. Since 2004 he has collaborated with Cinemateca Portuguesa as a pianist, for which he recorded the soundtrack for the DVD editions of “Lisboa, Crónica Anedótica” by Leitão de Barros (2017) and “O Táxi no 9297” by Reinaldo Ferreira (2018) . Filipe Raposo usually composes soundtracks for cinema and theater. In partnership with António Jorge Gonçalves he has developed an artistic investigation about the birth of art. In his own name he has already edited the albums: First Falls (2011); A Hundred Silent Ways (2013); Inquiétude (2015); Rita Maria & Filipe Raposo Live in Oslo (2018); Øcre (2019).

Joana Barra Vaz

Joana Barra Vaz is a filmmaker, scriptwriter and composer.
Having graduated in scriptwriting and sound for film, Joana is also a self-taught guitarist with training in classical piano. She has collaborated with several artists.
In 2006, in the context of her traineesheep in screenwriting, Joana recorded, transcribed, and translated a conference by poet and screenwriter Tonino Guerra named “A Lesson in Cinema” (7Sois7Luas).
In 2011 she founded, together with Tiago Pereira, the web music archive ‘A Música Portuguesa A Gostar Dela Própria’. In 2012 she released her debut EP “Passeio Pelo Trilho”, produced by José de Castro and Bernardo Barata, and her lead single “Vai” was featured in the collection Fnac’s New Talents ‘12.
Joana has also directed music videos for Vitorino Voador, Trêsporcento, David Pires, Márcia, Verão Azul, and, together with Maria João Marques, with whom she has also written other music videos, she directed her first feature film: the music documentary “Meu Caro Amigo Chico” (2012). The documentary premiered at the film festivals Indie Lisboa ‘12, Muvi ‘14 and São Paulo International Film Festival where it was selected by the public for competition.
In September 2016 she founded the artistic platform and publishing company Bi-Du-Á and released her first LP “Mergulho Em Loba” (2016) — the record received excellent reviews and it is mentioned on some of best records of the year lists. In 2018, Joana was invited by Francisca Cortesão e de Afono Cabral to participate in RTP Festival da Canção with the song “Anda Estragar-me os Planos”. In parallel, in the last 12 years, Joana has been a music teacher in public schools.
Nowadays, she is ending her next record — the 3rd volume of the flume trilogy — with the support of GDA, produced by her and co-produced by Domenico Lancellotti and José de Castro, expected to come out in late 2020.

Jorge Ferraz

Guitarist, composer, sociologist and professor of higher education, born in Lisbon in 1964. Musician-guitarist (although he works with a lot of electronic and digital equipment, guitar and guitar tronics are his great obsession), composer and producer, he founded and led some Portuguese underground bands since 1983, with emphasis on “Santa Maria, Gasolina em Teu Ventre!” (whose first album was considered in 1998, in a joint work by Público and FNAC, one of the best albums of Portuguese popular music from 1960 to 1997), “Ezra Pound ea Loucura”, or “Fatimah X”. In 2006 he started to work on his own name, having published, since then, three albums (in 2008, 2010 and 2018).
He was also co-founder of the ephemeral band “João Peste & o Acidoxibordel” that brought together, among others, musicians from “Pop Dell’Arte” and “Santa Maria, Gasolina em Teu Ventre!”, as well as the renowned jazz saxophonist Rodrigo Beloved. He was the producer of his solo albums and most of the editions of the bands he joined, having also performed these functions with Pop Dell’Arte and The Great Lesbian Show.
He also published poetry in magazines such as “Vértice” “Boomerang”, as well as a storybook, “Telescópio Quebrado Scanner Descontínuo” at Black Sun Editores. PhD in Sociology of Culture and professor of higher education has taught and published in two major thematic areas: ideology, globalization and tourism: organizational behavior and sociology of management.
Since 2013, he has also worked with the multimedia collective Cellarius Noisy Machinae.

Pedro Azevedo

Artistic programmer of Musicbox and director of the Festival Aleste. In his spare time and more, Pedro Azevedo is a DJ and, while La Flama Blanca, he is the host of Baile Tropical.
