Created in 2011, the Portuguese Film Fund is a complementary tool to support the post-production of Portuguese films. Previous editions have supported projects by Gabriel Abrantes, Catarina Mourão, André Santos and Marco Leão, Tiago Hespanha, Inês Oliveira, Miguel Nunes, Leonor Noivo among others.
The live pitching session of the Portuguese Film Fund and Cine Cerca will take place on September 1st, 2pm (GMT+1) on Zoom and is open to all interested professionals regardless of being accredited in the industry events of IndieLisboa. Registrations are now open here.
The details of the projects will be available on the industry booklet and on Festival Scope Pro from 25th August onwards.
The winners will be announced on September 3rd.
Eligibility conditions
Applicant projects may be short or feature films, regardless of their genre (fiction, documentary, animation or experimental) in the beginning of post-production phase (rough or almost final cut) at the time of application, by Portuguese directors, or by foreigners with permanent residence in Portugal, and with Portuguese production. Applicant projects may have obtained other support (namely ICA, Fundação GDA or others), with a 50% quota guaranteed for low budget projects. IndieLisboa is joined by the partners Escola das Artes – Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Porto), Fundação GDA, Digital Mix Música e Imagem, The Yellow Color, and Portugal Film – Portuguese Film Agency which will participate to screen to international programmers and distributors the projects in the work-in-progress phase in the context of the Lisbon Screenings, private screenings of yet unreleased Portuguese films specially organized for these international guests.
Awards
a) School of Arts, Catholic University of Portugal (Porto): financial support in the amount of € 1,500 allocated to a project of any length and type;
b) Digital Mix Music and Image: post-production sound services for two films (one feature and one short);
c) GDA Foundation: €6.000 for the creation of original music, awarding one feature film (€4,000) and one short film (€2,000), or, alternatively, three short films (each €2,000);
d) The Yellow Color: two studio days of color grading for a short film, with the payment of the technician(s) to be made at the expenses of the project itself.
Deadlines and procedures
The deadline for applications ended on the 20th March 2020. A committee made up of members from all the partner organisations has chosen nine projects, out of all valid applications received. These nine selected projects will be presented online before an international jury during IndieLisboa, where the excerpts of the works will be viewed and the teams of each film will perform a pitch.

Pianist, composer and arranger. Has a master’s degree in Piano Jazz Performance by Royal College of Music (Stockholm) and a bachelor degree in Classical Composition by Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa. Collaborates regularly with many of the leading names in Portuguese music and composes soundtracks for cinema and theater. Since 2004 is a resident pianist for silent film screenings at the Portuguese Cinematheque and has created two original soundtracks for Portuguese silent films. Has five original albums.
Inke Van Loocke

Inke Van Loocke has worked for the International Film Festival Rotterdam in various capacities and is part of the IFFR Pro team since 2011. As manager of CineMart & Rotterdam Lab she focuses on long-term strategies, innovation, supporting talent, and creating new programmes for all IFFR Pro activities, She is part of the selection committee of CineMart and Hubert Bals Fund, is a guest expert for workshops and training programmes and served on several juries for international festivals.
Rosa Spaliviero
Curator, producer at Twenty Nine Studio & Production, IndigoMood Films

Born in Dakar, lives and works between Brussels and Lubumbashi. Founding member of Picha association and the Lubumbashi Biennale since 2008, she was introduced to African cinemas in Maputo as a program assistant at the Dockanema Documentary Film Festival directed by Pedro Pimenta (2006-2010). She was producer for Atelier Graphoui for 7 years (2011-2018), an experimental audiovisual production workspace in Brussels supporting first-time filmmakers. She works as a curator, independent film producer and founder of Twenty Nine Studio & Production.

GDA Foundation
The GDA Foundation aim is to support artists and their professional activities on multiple levels. This mission is carried out using a portion of the intellectual property rights generated by the artists themselves, ensured by GDA, the organisation responsible for the collective management of the Artists’ Rights, and benefits the entire artistic community through programmes to promote the arts and culture, the social protection of artists, the promotion of training activities, the creation of job opportunities, and the dissemination and protection of their intellectual property rights.
The Yellow Color
The Yellow Color is a post-production studio specializing in colour correction for film and advertising. This is the new project of colorist Marco Amaral who in recent years has collaborated closely with the best Portuguese directors in over 100 films screened at major film festivals around the world. Working closely with visual effects artists and sound editors/mixers, he is able to provide complete post-production solutions for projects of all scales.
Portugal Film – Portuguese Film Agency
Portugal Film – Portuguese Film Agency was launched in 2015 and is responsible for the international distribution and sales of feature and short films in Portugal. The internationalisation plan for each of the films in the catalogue (fiction, documentaries, animations and experimental titles) is due to the agency’s strong capacity to place them in the main film festivals in the world. Committed to the internationalization of Portuguese cinema, Portugal Film promotes throughout the year several actions (presence in markets and festivals and screenings for the industry) aiming to bring the films to distributors, festivals and local exhibition networks that will show them to an international audience.
