The Substitute

6th Grade gets a new substitute teacher. She wants to train the class for an international competition in Paris. But something isn’t right. How is she able to read kids’ minds? Why is she so mean? And how does she manage to convince everyone’s parents she is so great when the whole class knows she is really an alien?

The Pearce Sisters

An amusingly bleak hearted tale of two weather lashed old spinsters. lol and Edna Pearce live on a remote and austere strip of coast. They scrape out a miserable existence from the sea. The Pearce Sisters is a tale of love, loneliness, guts, gore, nudity, violence, smoking and cups of tea.

The Apology Line

Feeling guilty? The film is based around the creation of a real-life ‘apology line’ where members of the public can anonymously confess to absolutely anything, over the telephone. The idea came up from the original apology project in New York, conceived by artist Allan Bridge. James Lees took the concept and created a short doc/experimental hybrid film with the phone line as the starting point.

Urmuz

A visual experiment featuring two of the characters of the avanguardian writer Urmuz. The documentary is composed of scraps of memories of the people who are currently living on the street where the author used to live: Apolodor street; followed by two of his absurd stories shaped in a state of fiction around its two main characters, Stamate and Ismail.

The Drift

The Drift uses frame-by-frame techniques to weave an absurd fable about our America’s unflinching frontierism and the desire to push too far, too fast. Images dug out of thrift store bookshelves and flea market bins are animated to create an alternate take on what really happened behind the face of ground control, the space program, and the American psyche.

The Snow Crazy Surfer

After a victorious kids cycling tour (Yellow Jacket, the beach crazy cyclist first season), Yellow Jacket and his faithful supporter, Craby, decide to leave the sunny atmosphere of the coast to set off for a season of winter sports. Our tiny cyclist leaves his bike and sets off with a pair of skis and a yellow bonnet cut to the same scale. On the snow-covered slopes, our two buddies will be faced with a sturdy Black skier.

The Screening

One night, in a forest. The usual activities of the beasts are disrupted: A group of humans sits in front of a big white surface that lightens in the dark.This project has been shown as an Art Statement project at Art Basel 38. A screening did indeed take place by night, in the woods. Foxes, hedgehogs, owls… The forest saw everything. The audience too, guided there by torchlight. Likewise, they saw each other: depicting the situation experienced from the viewpoint of the natural wild world, the film is an endless duplication, a mise en abyme.

At the seaside, on the beach, two people experience extreme situations. A beautiful western mother asks a gypsy boy to look after her 4 year old baby; a husband and father fights ennui by flirting with the same beautiful foreigner while teaching her how to swim. But the story takes a different course when the beautiful mother disappears in the waves.

Tjúba Tén

An experimental ethnography recorded in the jungle village of Bendekondre, Suriname at the start of 2007. Composed of community-generated performances, re-enactments and extemporaneous recordings, this film functions doubly as an examination of a rapidly changing material culture in the present and as a historical document for the future.

Vertigo Rush

Critical examination of the special effect of the dolly zoom – first used by Hitchcock in Vertigo – Vertigo Rush becomes a declaration of love to film and the richness of the cinematic language. Used as an extremely effective means of creating shock in numerous films (Jaws, Goodfellas), here the focus of 20 minutes of experimentation is on the sensation of rotating and revolving (Vertigo).

Velocidade de Sedimentação

A man and a woman, strangers to each other, are stuck in a elevator for six hours. Miguel has in his hands an envelope with the results of his cancer exam and doesn’t have the courage to open it. Ana is terrified with a mouse that has invaded her home, so a part of her is relieved she’s being kept away from the apartment. These two strangers become more and more close, and even turn out to be the answers to one another problems.

Twenty Questions

A disillusioned man is tired. Tired being tired. Times come in a man’s life, when one wonders which doors were opened, which remain closed, and those irreversibly locked.
