Aurora arrived recently to the building and knows its new neighbor, José, in the runner. After two encounters, José invites Aurora to see a film in its house. Aurora accepts the invitation, that accidentally happens on the Christmas Eve. They end up having dinner, the alcohol breaks down their silence and they begin telling each other personal stories.

My Olympic Summer

An investigation into the authenticity of home movies. In 12 minutes, the director refutes the idealized image he had of his parents, and reveals how an international drama gave their marriage a new beginning. When his father was kidnapped with the Israeli Olympic team during the 1972 Games, and was the only released hostage, his mother came to her senses in Munich. The marriage endured, and one week after his father’s return, the filmmaker was born.

Ob?an Havel

After the split of Czechoslovakia in 1992, former political dissident, leader of the Velvet Revolution, playwright and essayist Vaclav Havel became the first president of a new country, the Czech Republic. He permitted his friend, filmmaker Pavel Koutecky, to be with him, to capture as much of it as possible, whether in the Prague Castle or around the world. The result is a feature-length documentary of never-before-seen footage that provides an intimate look at a man thrust into the spotlight of international politics and celebrity, trying to maintain a balance between public and personal life while bringing his nation out of its communist past and into a free, democratic future.

Nu Te Supara, Dar…

Documentary focuses on the institutions of prison and psychiatric hospitals. Behind high walls, these institutions are often social cul-de-sacs, or simply existential dead-ends. On the other hand, the film leads directly to heaven. Even God (at least one) is already there! With a sure instinct, using precise, slow shots, it show us the Calugareni Neuropsychiatric Centre. An alternative universe that floats above all else, naked and sublime.

O Matricida

When Daniel’s mother dies of cancer, he can’t figure out the real weight of her loss. But during the first Christmas without her, the boy’s splitted between the urgent need of finding her living rests and the efforts of dealing with an unskilful father. Unexpectedly, Daniel accedes to a moment of his parent’s life that will perhaps destroy the tender image of his mother, forever.

Notes from a Bastard Child

Parked somewhere between the poetic and the anthropological. The film displays considerable wit and a casual structure. We drop in on fragments of conversations and small dollops of ambiance, but this approach results in a film that leaves a warm overall impression. Silva’s film seems to imply that he’s an impure filmmaker, a bastard child who draws on available traditions but weaves them into unexpected realms of experience.

Occident

A bitter comedy about the people who want to emigrate from Romania and those who stay behind. The plot has three different stories that interconnect and happen in the same period. The characters influence each others lives, sometimes even without knowing. The stories do not have just one ending: the first story ends in each of the third parts in a different point, suggesting radically different solutions for the characters.

Pas a Nivell

Like a disoriented Ulysses, Marc doesn’t know how to affront his live after finishing his career. The apathy and frustration make him finally accept a curious job in the touristic village where his grandmother lives. The relationship that grows between them, and her sudden death, will make Marc conscious about taking his own decisions.
