IndieLisboa 2016’s program was revealed today. What is new? Besides all the films – most of them were never screened in Portugal before – we bring you a few surprises this year, like the film marathon at night with films from the Mouth of Madness section – the works of directors who had no fear of exploring uncharted territories. There are monsters created inside a teenager’s mind (Der Nachtmahr), tripping ponies (Lesley the Pony has an A+ Day), human monsters created by the relentless power of bureaucracy (Un Monstruo de Mil Cabezas), deadly farts (The Procedure) and classic horror monsters, like the witches from the eagerly awaited The Witch, by director Robert Eggers. For those who will dear to face this, the film marathon will happen on April 23rd, 23h30 at Cinema Ideal.
The special screenings include different events, like the premiere of João Botelho’s O Cinema, Manoel de Oliveira e Eu, João Mário Grilo’s A Vossa Terra (about the way of thinking of Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles), and José Vieira’s A Ilha dos Ausentes (a film about the Portuguese emigration to France). There will also be a film-concert, with the collaboration of Os Dias da Música at CCB: o Rondó da Carpideira is a live show that pays homage to the work of Michel Giacometti, using his ethnical music research in Portugal as a starting point. Created by musicians Mário Marques (saxophonist) and Daniel Bernardes (pianist), the performance’s editing and visual conception is created by Gonçalo Tarquínio.
Since concerts and parties also complete the festival’s experience, we give opening honours to Pega Monstro, who will be playing at IndieLisboa’s anticipation party – the first IndiebyNight event of this year-, on April 9th, in the catacombs of Liceu Camões, the school where the two sisters studied. But before that, we give way to the retrospective of the Independent Hero, Paul Verhoeven (along with Vincent Macaigne), with the screening of one of his most iconic films: Robocop will be shown at the school’s auditorium, at 21h30.
