Abertura, Encerramento e Sessão Especial 25 de Abril

After last year’s homage to them in the Independent Hero section, Whit Stillman and Mia Hansen-Løve will play an important role in the festival again: their most recent films Love & Friendship and L’avenir, will be the opening and closing screenings of the festival. The screening of one of the most anticipated Portuguese films of the year, Ivo Ferreira’s Cartas da Guerra, is bound to also be very memorable.

On April 20th, at 21h30, in the Manoel de Oliveira theatre at Cinema São Jorge, the opening ceremony of IndieLisboa 2016 will take us on a trip with Whit Stillman’s Love & Friendship, a literary journey to Jane Austen’s story which the director transformed – as usual – into a fun comedy of manners. Mia Hansen-Løve won the award for best director at the Berlinale with her most recent work. Isabelle Huppert, the protagonist of L’avenir, is a philosophy teacher who is trying to find her inner self again after the death of her mother, the cheating of her husband and her professional stagnation. The festival’s closing screening will happen after the award ceremony, on Sunday, May 1st, at Culturgest’s Main Auditorium.

On April 25th, at 18h30, also at Culturgest’s Main Auditorium, we will remember the written letters António Lobo Antunes sent to his wife, Maria José (played in the film by Miguel Nunes and Margarida Vila-Nova), during the Colonial War in Angola. Ivo Ferreira, director of Cartas da Guerra, materializes António Lobo Antunes’ beautiful way of writing with the help of João Ribeiro’s incredible photography, giving us the chance to live temporarely in distant times.
