(EN) Portuguese cinema bursts in creativity and ambition 2013-04-04

In the following year of the support cuts in the cinema in Portugal, we feared that this woul be reflected in the quantity and quality of the films received for this edition. However, it’s with great enthusiasm that we reveal a lineup of Portuguese films that reveals precisely the opposite: a nacional production very strong with 48 films divided into the various sections of the festival.

In the six feature films in the National Competition there is a clear approach to the hybrid format, in which the filmmakers recreate the actual staging it, without ever abandoning an almost documentary root .

Thus, there is something that fascinates us and transcends in Batalha de Tabatô, João Viana, passed in Guinea (and a universe at once magical and concrete) in Campo de Flamingos sem Flamingos, André Príncip,e a portrait of country and the seasons, which could belong to any time, and É o Amor, João Canijo, where Anabela Moreira interferes (and transforms) Caxinas women routines. Also in Lacrau, João Vladimiro, we witnessed to the same real draw of an interior village of Portugal, in Um Fim do Mundo, Pedro Pinho, a portrait of the BelaVista neighborhood in Setúbal personified a group of teenagers. We can say that there is in Bobô a fiction of Inês Oliveira, many elements from reality: a history of emigration and friendship which emerge almost mystical moments, characteristic of African tradition.
