The 65th edition of Locarno Film Festival will present a few Portuguese films, three of which are on the main competitive sections.
As the Flames Rose by João Rui Guerra da Mata is part of the short film competitive section Pardi di Domani. A solo debut for the director, the film tells us the story of Francisco’s love break using Chiado major fire ‚ which started on August 25th 1988 at dawn ‚ as a setting. As the Flames Rose was screened at IndieLisboa 9th edition, which took place from April 26th to May 6th 2012.
Zwazo by Gabriel Abrantes, also in competition at the Pardi di Domani section, unveils a cultural melting pot and talks about colonialism, starring three Haitian teenagers.
The Last Time I Saw Macao by João Pedro Rodrigues and João Rui Guerra da Mata was selected for the International Feature Film Competition and will have its International Premiere at Locarno. In 2011 at IndieLisboa, the directors presented Red Dawn, the short film that preceded this feature, shot at the Red Market in Macao. The Red Dawn won the Pixel Bunker Award for Best Portuguese Short Film at IndieLisboa’11.
The Festival del Film Locarno will be held from August 1st to 11th in Switzerland.
