This year, IndieLisboa Observatory and Emerging Cinema sections will present some new titles from renowned directors and cinema promises.
In the Observatory the audience will be able to watch the national premieres of films like Into the Abyss by Werner Herzog. Herzog and Michael Perry’s accents blend in (German and Texan). In cold-blood, Herzog interviews Michael, a murderer waiting for his final moment on the dead row eight days before his execution. Still in this section 4:44 Last Day on Earth by Abel Ferrara will also be presented. 4:44 is the apocalyptic hour where the end of the human era is not as rough as we thought. On the other hand, Andrea Arnold adapts the classic from Emily Bronté in a modern language where her hand camera never stops pursuing its characters. Her film Wuthering Heights won the best cinematography award in Venice.
The Emerging Cinema section will screen the film Take Shelter by Jeff Nichols. The director won awards at film festivals all over the world including the Critics Week Grand Prize in Cannes. Also in this section we can highlight Michael, the sensation film that surprised and delighted public and critic in Cannes. The first feature film by Markus Schleinzer is based in Natascha Kampusch’s story. It whispers a undisputed horror using, by reference, the best of Haneke language.
