The winner of the Brand New Betclic award is now announced

WINNER | Hunting Day by Alberto Seixas | fic., Portugal, 2020, 3′

The Brand New Betclic Award prize was announced this Friday, September 3, at Fábrica do Pão (Casa do Capitão), in a special ceremony that took place before the annoucement of the remaining awards.

The jury, composed of programmer and head of studies at HEAD, Delphine Jeanneret, the film producer Maria João Mayer and the actress Mia Tomé, awarded the short film Hunting Day by Alberto Seixas. The film portrays a break in a hunter’s routine, who goes out every saturday looking for prey. A total of 13 films were selected to the Brand New section.

According to the jury, this choice was led by the micro-narrative in Hunting Day, which “embodies what cinema itself is: make believe, imagination, questioning reality through fiction”. The jury was impressed by the action’s aesthetics and timing, considering that in just a few minutes the filmmaker created a sensory experience with a strong sense of camera work and framing.

Hunting Day was screened once more at Fábrica do Pão and preceded by João Lourenço and Bruno Ferreira’s Rastro, co-produced by Betclic. The ceremony ended with a concert by Puçanga at Casa do Capitão’s terrace.
