This weekend in IndieLisboa

We have arrived at IndieLisboa’s last weekend and there is still a lot to see. We are waiting for you at Culturgest, Cinema Ideal, Cinemateca and Biblioteca Palácio Galveias with screenings, talks and open air cinema.

THIS WEEKEND

Jack is Joaquim Calçada, a former aircraft mechanic. Before the Carnation Revolution, he emigrated to New York, where he became a taxi driver. He returns, as Carmen Miranda sang, “Americanized”, after twenty years. It’s in Alhandra, Vila Franca de Xira, that, one step away from retirement, he tells stories of his time in the United States and of a journey guided by his survival instinct.

Patrick
Luke Fowler continues to create posthumous portraits of relevant figures. In this film, he evokes the life of music producer Patrick Cowley, the pioneer of Hi-NRG, a genre of electronic music, in the late 70s, and a prolific artist of the San Francisco cultural scene.
Sisters With Transistors
A healthy historical review, narrated by Laurie Anderson, that puts “girls to the front” when it comes to the impact and contributions of women in the history of electronic music. The contributions of the experiments by Clara Rockmore, Daphne Oram, Bebe Barron, Delia Derbyshire, Maryanne Amacher, Pauline Oliveros, Wendy Carlos, Eliane Radigue, Suzanne Ciani and Laurie Spiegel are mapped throughout this documentary – contextualizing their work regarding the political, cultural and social movements of the 20th century.
