Films and filmmakers are also the subject matter of this year’s official selection, allowing curious fans of Cinema to find out about stories and schools linked to the seventh art.

Another homage to Alejandra Rojo to filmmaker Raoul Ruiz in the documentary Raoul Ruiz Contre L’ignorance Fiction! (May 11 at the Cinemateca Portuguesa). Dietmar Brehm builds, in Hallo Mabuse, a hypnotic appropriation of Fritz Lang’s Das testament des Dr Mabuse (1933). Young Mr. Lincoln by Eisenstein is a fun reassembly of the Ford movie, in the style of the Russian director. In Tati vs. Bresson: The Gag, by Mark Rappaport, compare the looks of two (apparently) very different filmmakers. Already Filipe Afonso elaborates, in Special A/ Effects, a reflection on the cinema as illusion.
