Paul Vecchiali, Jem Cohen, Vitaly Mansky e Stuart Staples em Lisboa

Starting this Wednesday, May 3rd, IndieLisboa will bring to Lisbon, until May 14th, a total of 296 films, most of which will only get this one opportunity to be screened nationally on the big screen.

The opening day starts at 15h30, at Cinemateca Portuguesa – Museu do Cinema, with the screening of Paul Vecchiali’s Femmes femmes – one of this year’s Independent Heroes. Another important moment of this first day is the premiere of ColoTeresa Villaverde’s new film, at 21h00, in the festival’s opening ceremony. Some attention should also be given to the screening of the first feature film by Alex Ross Perry, Golden Exitsa neurotic comedy in the vein of Woody Allen, full of opinionated intellectuals and middle-life crisis, with Emily Browning, Mary-Louise Parker, Jason Schwartzman and Chloë Sevigny.

Alongside the retrospectives which are dedicated to them, Jem Cohen and Paul Vecchiali will be present in Lisbon, not only to present their films at the festival, but also for two talks, integrated in the LisbonTalks program, which will happen at Cinema São Jorge (Room 2), on May 9th, and at Cinemateca Portuguesa, on May 11th, respectively.

Vitaly Mansky, one of the most renowned Russian documentarians, returns to IndieLisboa, after having presented Truba, in 2004. Born in the Ukrain, Mansky returns to his country of origin, in order to explore the consequences of the protests of 2013 in Maidan, the Independence Square. The director visits several of his family members, who sometimes live in Odessa and other times live in the separatist zone of Donbass and Crimea, the Russian occupied zone.

Rodnye (Close Relations) tells the story of a family, divided by a conflict between two countries which was started centuries ago. May 3rd and 5th, at Culturgest, 19h15 and 16h30, respectively. The director will be present in the May 5th screening.

We would also like to bring attention to the presence in Lisbon of Gusztáv Hámos and Katja Pratschke, who are being payed homage to in the Silvestre Section, for their work around the photofilm; Stuart A. Staples (Tindersticks) for the presentation of his film, dedicated to the works of filmmaker F. Percy Smith; Kiro Russo, Eduardo Williams, Damien Manivel, among many other guests.

The Portuguese directors will also be present in the screenings of their films, to share their experiences with the making of the films.
