It is time to revisit a prolific wave of filmmakers that has created a singular cinematic tradition which finds in realism its greatest power. The stories told in Romanian Days refer to daily life, to family and belong to the country’s recent history (particularly to the revolution and its consequences). Adjoining this celebration are emerging and renown filmmakers, showing their short and feature films, in both documentary and fictional formats. The programme includes an homage to Radu Jude, with a full retrospective of his filmography.
Romanian Days will welcome three special guests in Lisbon to present their films and talk to the audience at the end of the screenings: Adrian Sitaru is one of the most unique filmmakers of the New Romanian New Wave; we will premiere his latest short Film Arta (Art), shown in competition at the last Venice Film Festival, and also his previous feature film, Domestic. Laurenţiu Calciu is a professor and documentary filmmaker, and directed Dupa revoluţie (After the Revolution), an impressive record on the Romanian revolution. Andrei Rus is a film critic, editor of the film magazine Film Menu, a programmer for the TimiShort International Film Festival and one of the curators of this program, invited by IndieLisboa.
