On March 27th IndieLisboa’12 Press Conference was held at Palácio Galveias. Miguel Valverde, Nuno Sena and Rui Pereira, the three film festival directors, revealed the line-up guidelines which will steer IndieLisboa next edition.
The big challenge of the 9th film festival edition was to build a transversal programme which would be able to make the year off all dangers into the best year of IndieLisboa Film Festival. And the numbers help realizing that IndieLisboa FF has already assured its relevance on the international film festivals panorama, as we can see by the 33 films screened in worldwide debut and 19 films in international debut. On the other hand, the selection of Portuguese films has never been so flattering, since the Portuguese film production will be represented by 6 features and 32 short films.
In total there IndieLisboa will present 233 films divided into 222 film sessions that will compose IndieLisboa sections and create the best film festival program in Lisbon. In a brief outline, the Feature International Film Competition surprises for its fictional input with a reality edge, as we would see by the smithereens of Leila Albayaty, the director of Berlin Telegram, the familiar commotion of Everybody In Our Family or the persuasive fuse of De Jueves A Domingo and Formentera. These are films that take the absurd into the big human obsessions, like Babis Makridis does in L or Alex Ross Perry in The color wheel. Films that embrace the symptoms of complicated relationships with a disarming honesty, like Voie rapide or He Was a Giant with Brown Eyes. There is still space to speak about unspeakable crimes – this is shown in Stillleben – and their antipodes, true expressions of affection, under any form, sometimes in a world so unfair like it shouts O som ao redor or whispers L’estate di Giacom.
But a film festival is not exclusively about Cinema, and this year Indie By Night schedule will take over one of the most famous streets of Lisbon. In April and May the Rua Nova do Carvalho will be Rua (street) Dr. IndieLisboa and Cais do Sodré will be a meeting point for the audience, directors and guests during 11 nights of continuous emotions at various venues: Bar da Velha Senhora, Povo, Casa Conveniente, Musicbox, Pensão Amor and Viking. Another interest point of the festival will be the LisbonTalks, the ideal place for discussions, proposals for new thinking and an opportunity to engage the audience on Cinema issues. It is the case of the seminar Training, Production, Distribution/Promotion that will be directed by Paulo Viveiros, in a partnership with Universidade Lusófona.
