On October 22nd and 25th, four Gabriel Abrantes films will be presented at the BFI London Film Festival.
Liberty, by Gabriel Abrantes and Benjamin Crotty, was screened at IndieLisboa’11 and awarded Abrantes with the RESTART Award for Best Portuguese Short Film Director. Filmed in Angola, the film talks about the relationship of Liberty, a young Angolan boy, with his Chinese girlfriend.
After, his first medium length film Palaces of Pity, co-directed by Daniel Schmidt, will be presented. This parable of guilt and oppression that features some aspects of the Portuguese colonial history was granted the support of the FNAC/IndieLisboa fund and also screened at Venice International Film Festival this year.
The session will end with the two shorts Olympia I & II, directed by Abrantes and Katie Widloski, which are built up around a painting by Manet and were screened at IndieLisboa’08.
The films will be screened in one session and are included in the Experimenta section, dedicated to cutting-edge and avant-garde films. This session will take place on two dates: October 22nd (19h00) and 25th (13h15). BFI London Film Festival will be held in ten London venues from October 12th to 27th.
