This year’s Viennale has a significant presence of Portuguese directors in the program: João Nicolau, Pedro Caldas, Sandro Aguilar and Gabriel Abrantes are a few names that will be at the prestigious international film festival of Vienna, that takes place from 21st October to 3rd of November.
Pedro Caldas will present Guerra Civil, his first feature, awarded at the IndieLisboa’10 with Tobis Award for Best Portuguese Feature Film. João Nicolau will screen again his most recent film, A Espada e a Rosa, after having been at the Venice film festival. Manoel de Oliveira, that also attended the Italian festival, presents O Estranho Caso de Angélica and the chilien Raul Ruiz will show his Portuguese produced film Os Mistérios de Lisboa.
In the short films section, José Filipe Costa will present Povo Unido and Ana Eliseu and Joana Frazão will screen História do Cinema. Voodoo by Sandro Aguilar and A History of Mutual Respect by Gabriel Abrantes and Daniel Schmidt (both winners of IndieLisboa’10) will also make part of Viennale’s program.
The international film festival of Vienna occurs since 1960. His current director and programmer, Hans Hurch, is a regular of IndieLisboa and Lisbon Screenings, a sidebar activity of the festival in which are premiered Portuguese films to international buyers, programmers and guest critics.
IndieLisboa will be represented at Viennale represented by one of its directors and programmers, Rui Pereira.
