(EN) Berlinale “International Forum of New Cinema” honoured at IndieLisboa’10

Along with Heddy Honnigman, the other Independent Hero at IndieLisboa 2010 is the Berlinale “International Forum of New Cinema” which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2009. Placing emphasis on young filmmakers, the Forum is still the most daring section in the Berlinale program.

The Forum explores the boundaries between art and cinema, but does not aim at presenting one particular idea. Its goal is to establish connections, to allow its films to enter into dialogue, or sometimes even contradict one another. And that is something which has not changed over the last 40 years. We are still just as excited by every new voice, by every new generation of filmmakers, says Christoph Terhechte, current director of the Forum.

In tribute to the Forum’s anniversary, IndieLisboa 2010 decided to screen a selection of movies exhibited there throughout these four decades. Thirteen filmmakers, who have also already shown their work at the Forum, were asked to select their favourite films from other directors who have also exhibited their features there. After being held at Kino Arsenal last year, to commemorate the original inaugural event, this is the first time this program will be exhibited outside Germany. Some filmmakers with features included in this tribute will also be attending IndieLisboa 2010.
